Training On Formation Of Taluk & District Level Federations.

KROSS and its 14 Diocesan Operating Partners have been working steadfastly towards women empowerment and a lot of changes are visible in the most rural and backwards areas. Nevertheless, it was felt that there was much more that could be achieved if the women are federated at the Taluk & District level so that they would have a platform for lobbying and advocacy and take up women centric issues. In order to achieve this goal, a two days’ training session was organized at KROSS Resource Centre, Bangalore on 12th and 13th July 2017 in which 70 participants from all over the state of Karnataka representing various cluster level federations participated.

Rev. Fr. Sebastian Fernandes, Director KROSS in his keynote address commented that, formation of Self Help Groups was a watershed moment in our country, but somewhere along the road, a different path was tread giving importance to economic development and forgetting all about women’s rights & equity. It is now realized that women’s emancipation & empowerment could begin by taking up women centric issues, lobby and advocacy for women’s rights and networking through cluster level, taluk level and district level federations and if we want women to be part of the policy and decision making body then we have to have a strong federations to take up women’s issues at grassroots, taluk, district and state level.

Rev. Fr. Faustine Lobo, National Director, Pontifical Mission Society facilitated the two days training providing the required inputs to take the step in the right direction. The training was participatory with group discussions, debate and finding ways and means how best to carry forward the formation of federations.

Ms. Sudhamani, JVSSS, Mandya welcomed the participants, Mr. Harishchandra, KDDC, Karwar moderated the proceedings and Mr. Jagadeesh, SMSSS, Shimoga proposed the vote of thanks.
