Workshop on Panchayatraj Institution

A two days’ workshop was conducted at KROSS Resource Centre, Bangalore on the theme – Enhancing of Participation of Women in Local Self Governance on 4th & 5th November, 2014.

Our responsibility is to organize the poor and the most marginalized communities, particularly women to prepare them for value based leadership and facilitate their entry into panchayatraj institutions. Political power is the key to development and if the right candidates win the elections then all round development could be seen said Fr. Peter Brank.

Mr. Wilfred D’souza, Consultant (Training), ANSSIRD and Mr. Shivkalaiah, Trainer, ANSSIRD who were the resource persons went on to explain the origin of gram panchayat and the special attention it received from our political leaders which helped in bringing in the 73rd Amendment in 1993, its salient features and how it has helped in local self-governance at the grass roots level due to the decentralized processes.

There were 55 participants from all over Karnataka State who actively participated through group discussions, quiz competition, awareness songs, building a strategy for inclusion process of women and most marginalized communities and prepared an action plan. A further follow-up workshop would be conducted by January 2015 end to assess the preparations and to bring in any new measures that would be needed.

Mr. G. M. Varghese welcomed the gathering, Mr. Sundar proposed a vote of thanks and Mr. Clement moderated the workshop.
