Training on Women's Rights

A two days Training program on Women’s Rights and Gender Mainstreaming was conducted at KROSS Resource Centre, Bengaluru on 18th & 19 Nov., 2014.

As per a United Nations report in India alone out of 10 men, 6 men abuse their spouses. If the report was true with supportive and objective baseline date, then we have to rethink about our work. Over the past three decades innumerable NGOs are working on women empowerment programs along with many Government Agencies but what is the end result? It is high time that we as NGOs reflect, analyze and if need be do a paradigm shift to bring the needed changes and this can only happen if we own the responsibility to empower the women by educating them on their constitutional rights and ensure that they claim justice through a rights based approach. It is not enough for us as NGOs to form Self Help Groups but we have to strive to bring in the necessary attitudinal changes in the families so that women and children enjoy rights as enshrined in the constitution without fear said Fr. Peter Brank in his inaugural address.

The training was facilitated by Advocate, Sr. Juliet Cutinha of Bhadrvathy who was ably assisted by Sr. Nancy Lobo, Program Officer, KROSS.

The training was attended by 40 participants from all over Karnataka associated with grass roots activism. The participants were welcomed by Mr. Sundar from Uttar Kannada District and the vote of thanks was proposed by Sr. Lovely from Mysore. The two days program was moderated by Sr. Lucia, Program Officer, KROSS.
