Support to Training & Employment Programme (STEP)

A Review Meeting of STEP supported by the Ministry of Women & Child Development, Government of India for Women was held at KROSS Resource Centre, Bangalore on January 12, 2015. Ms Joyce Periera, Program Officer and the four Coordinators of Bangalore, Chitradurga, Hassan & Mysore were present along with the support staff. Also present were the Monitoring Committee Members, Mr. R. M. Pandey, Senior Technical Officer, Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Mr. Susainathan, Retd. KAS (Food & Civil Supplies Officer), Dr. U. Homiga, Faculty, Regional Institute of Co-operative Management, Dr. Maya Mascarhaneas, Governing Board Member, KROSS and Rev. Fr. Peter Brank, Director, KROSS who were all welcomed by Mr. G. M. Varghese, Program Officer, KROSS.

The District wise quarterly progress reports were presented and it was reported that the production of vegetables is in process, marketing has commenced and Cooperatives are also registered. The total outcome is as follows:

The Monitoring Committee Members also said that we have to build a rapport with the Horticulture, Agriculture and related departments to avail the benefits and also collaborate with different government agencies as this will help not only in getting our work done with different agencies quicker but also help in making the project a success.

Fr. Peter Brank, Director, KROSS evaluated the presentation done by the Coordinators of the 4 districts and gave valuable tips and suggestions for overcoming the challenges and suggested ways and means to make the project a success as he emphasised that the overall impact of this project was to see that the poor rural women are alleviated from poverty.

An action plan was drawn for the three months which was facilitated by Ms. Joyce Periera. The meeting concluded at 4.00 p.m. with a vote of thanks by Mr. Clement Fernandes.
