Workshop On Right To Information – 24.05.2016

A workshop on Right to Information was organized at Seva Sangama, Gulbarga on 24th May 2016 which was attended by 60 participants representing the DSSS, NGOs, Gram Panchayat, various Government Departments and Federations. The workshop was inaugurated by Most Rev. Dr. Robert Miranda, Bishop of Gulbarga by lighting a lamp.

Rev. Fr. Santosh Bapu, Director, Seva Sangama, Gulbarga welcomed the gathering and informed the participants of the background for bringing in the Right to Information Act 2005 and told them that if they wanted to weed out the corrupt practices this was the tool that they had to use frequently to bring in transparency and good governance.

The Resource Person, Advocate Sr. Juliet Cutinha from Bhadravathi explained to the participants the need of bringing the Right to Information Act into force and how they could go about in collecting the needed information from various departments. A format of the application to collect the information was circulated to the participants and they were made to fill in the specimen format so that they are acquainted in filling the format and were able to motivate the people to gather the required information. It was also informed that if the Public Information Officer fails to reply within 30 days, the officer can be levied a monetary penalty and hence the people should make use of this tool since they will get definite reply within 30 days.
