Training On Rights Based Approach To Social Development – 15th June, 2016

A Workshop on Rights based Approach to Social Development was conducted at KROSS Resource Centre on 15.06.2016 which was attended by 38 participants from all over the state of Karnataka.

Rights based approach to social development is an approach promoted to achieve a positive transformation of power relation between the two stake holders, i.e., the rights holders who do not experience full rights and the duty bearers who are obligated to fulfil the holders’ rights. We have to capacitate and empower the right holders and ensure that the duty bearers perform functions and solve the problems said Rev. Fr. Sebastian Fernandes in his key note address.

Sr. Juliet Cutinha, Advocate who facilitated the workshop used different methodology to make the participants understand their role in using the tool of rights based approach for social development and betterment of the most marginalized communities. The method adopted was:

• Introduction to concept of Rights Based Approach;
• Clarity on Fundamental Rights & Human Rights;
• Analysing the programs undertaken and how to integrate the rights based approach into it so that the stakeholders get their legal entitlements;
• Evaluation of one’s own experience and see how best the program can be carried forward on rights based approach;
• Group discussions, sharing life stories, question & answers and interactive games.

Mr. Chinnappa, BDDS, Bellary welcomed the gathering, Ms Bhagyamary, CMSSS, Hassan moderated the session and Mr. Stanly, Sampada, Udupi proposed the vote of thanks.
