Women Empowerment Program In Karnataka – Review Meet 15th & 16th June 2016.

The Women Empowerment Program Review Meeting was held at KROSS Resource Centre, Bangalore on 15th & 16th June, 2016 in which the Coordinators & Animators of the 14 Diocesan Social Service Societies participated and presented their reports for the period January 2016 to May 2016 which was the first Report for the continuation phase of the program sanctioned for three years (2016 to 2018).

Rev. Fr. Sebastian Fernandes, Director, KROSS in his keynote address commented that though we are working for women empowerment for more than a decade there still exits gender inequality. Women silently bear the harassment from their own partners due to lack of education, legal awareness and empowerment. Women raise children, maintain families but yet she does not get recognition for her work in her own home. If women are educated on various aspects then only will they be empowered and this benefits the entire society. He concluded his address by quoting Swami Vivekananda – “There is no chance of the welfare of the world unless the condition of women is improved. It is not possible for a bird to fly on one wing.”

The 14 Diocesan Coordinators/Animators presented the PPT of their work done and issues taken up during the reported period.

Sr. Nancy Lobo, State Coordinator, Women Empowerment Program summed up the reports and provided useful tips to the Coordinators and Animators on how the work has to be carried forward keeping in view the new objectives for the continuation phase. Sr. Zita D’souza, Chief Coordinator, Women Empowerment Program ably supported by giving her feedback.
