Paustik Review Meeting – 5th & 6th July, 2016.

A Review Meet on program “PAUSTIK” – Mitigating Malnourishment in North Karnataka was held at KROSS Resource Centre, Bangalore on 5th & 6th July 2016.

Rev. Fr. Sebastian Fernandes, Director, KROSS in his keynote address commended the Staff of BDDS, Bellay, Seva Sangama, Gulbarga and BDSSS, Belgaum for having reached out to the rural villages to make them aware of the consequences of Malnourishment and how it could affect generations to come. He said it was not just enough for us to make them aware of the schemes and benefits provided by the Government but we have to see that they themselves learn to generate the nutrients required through adopting a very simple method of “Kitchen Garden” which was possible through minimum investment but what was needed was a little love for gardening which could not only provide them with daily vegetable but could be a source of protein, carbohydrate, minerals and fibre which could end the scourge of malnutrition in time to come. He concluded with the quote of Mahatma Gandhi who said “You must be the change you wish to see in the world”.

The three Program Coordinators presented their reports which were not only appreciated by the participants from the three DSSSs but also comments and suggestions were provided by them to improve the style of working so that better results could be projected.

Dr. Rajashekar, Program Officer, Natural Resource Management, KROSS provided inputs on how to plan the Kitchen Garden, which were the vegetables that could be grown not only for their nutrients but also which were sturdy enough to withstand the climatic conditions of North Karnataka.

Mr. G. M. Varghese, Program Officer, Paustik, KROSS moderated the two days session providing useful hints and tips to the participants on how the program could be enhanced further with a little more involvement at the field level which could help in saving the malnourished child and mothers to be from fatalities.

Sr. Jeevalatha, BDSSS, Belgaum welcomed the participants and Sr. Jennet Rego, Seva Sangama, Gulbarga proposed the vote of thanks.
