Women Empowerment Program Review Meeting cum Training on Basic Counselling Skills

A Review Meeting of the Women Empowerment Programme was held on 14th December, 2016 at KROSS Resource Centre which was attended by 42 participants from all over Karnataka. This was followed with a two day Training Session on Basic Counselling Skills on 15th & 16th December, 2016.

Counselling is being focused on everything that is being said by the client which requires the use of all your senses as you give undivided attention to the person talking to you and this is going to be noticed by the person and feel comfortable and be open and honest. This indicates to that person you are accepting him/her for who they are. Your body language, looking at the person and affirmation encourages them to elaborate. If you also paraphrase some of the key issues affirms to the person that you are listening said Rev. Fr. Sebastian Fernandes in his opening address.

The Training was conducted by Mr. John Bosco who conducted the basic training with the help of games, talk, question & answers, display of pictures, video clippings etc. which made the training meaningful to the participants.

The three days programme was moderated by Sr. Nancy Lobo and Sr. Zita D’souza helping the participants to be interactive and assisting them to generate a debate amongst themselves to understand the process of counselling.

The concluding day had a valedictory function with Rev. Fr. Stanislaus Manikam, Regional Secretary for Proclamation & Evangelization as the Chief Guest. He gave a brief address to the participants on the importance of counselling and said that this skill is not only for being made use on others but also it is important in our life to counsel our own selves.
